The Colombian cargo airline Avianca Cargo reported today that, between January 20 and February 6, it mobilized around 11,688 tons of flowers for the celebration of Valentine's Day, which takes place on February 14. This figure grew 5% compared to the total transported last year.
"In response to the needs of the floriculture sector for this season, we focus our efforts on offering additional capacity and thus support the growth of flower exports from Colombia and Ecuador," Avianca Cargo CEO Kurt Schosinsky was quoted as saying in a statement. from his office.
In total, the airline made a total of 162 cargo flights from Bogota, Medellin and Quito. Its capacity, between 40 and 100 tons per flight, was used mainly in flowers such as roses, carnations and bouquets in the Bogotá case. In the case of Medellín, pompoms, hydrangeas and chrysanthemums were exported, while roses and gypsos were mobilized from Quito.
According to these conditions and the itinerary of the season, the company operated 14 charter flights to the cities of Miami and Los Angeles in the United States, in addition to San Juan, the capital of Puerto Rico.
On the other hand, more than 600 tons of perishables were also mobilized to cities such as Amsterdam, Brussels and Maastricht, through the company's most recent commercial alliance with Emirates SkyCargo.
"It was a successful season, where we showed a good level of growth in our indicators, but more importantly, we offered our clients a professional and reliable service," added Schosinsky.
Looks like EK shifted a significant amount of flights back to AMS. Noticed several MST flt numbers operating in AMS again.
These flights are not ‘MST flightnumbers’!
Emirates has temporary stopped its NBO operation due to the extremely low flower demand.
In order to take care of the usual export out of the Netherlands and the usual cargo capacity on the triple daily pax services into AMS, EK now operates some direct full freighter flights on the DWC-AMS route. Basically no additional slots are required as they can use their pax-slots.
